Russian Forces Kill Two In Seige

11 October 2004 -- A report says Russian security forces and police have killed two militants and detained a third in a shoot-out outside the Ingush capital Nazran.

The AP news agency cited Russia's Interfax as reporting the militants fired on Russian troops who had ordered them to lay down their weapons. Federal Security Service spokesman Major General Ilya Shabalkin said the troops returned fire. Two women and six children were lightly wounded.

Shabalkin said one of the attackers who was killed, Magomed Khashiev, had taken part in a series of raids on police posts in Nazran in June in which some 90 people were killed.
