Murder Suspected In Iraq Detainee's Death

16 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The U.S. military said murder was suspected in the death of a 20-year-old detainee at Abu Ghurayb prison outside Baghdad.

The man was found unconscious by fellow inmates in the prison on 15 August. He was taken to a military hospital and pronounced dead.

In a statement today, the military said it was investigating the death of the detainee. It did not state a cause for the death and did not name the victim or any suspects.

The statement said the man had been detained at Abu Ghurayb for security reasons.
