Residents of Khaleq Ali mourn earthquake victims on March 31 (epa) March 31, 2006 -- Three consecutive earthquakes hit Iran's western Luristan Province today, killing at least 66 people and injuring nearly 1,000 others.
The hardest hit areas are villages between the towns of Dorud and Borujerd. Reports say that hospitals in those two towns are full to capacity with the wounded.
Emergency officials are calling for help, saying medical supplies are urgently needed.
Iran is prone to earthquakes. In December 2003, a huge earthquake hit the southern city of Bam, killing over 30,000 people.
