Ukraine Moves To World Cup Quarterfinals

The Ukrainians downed the Swiss 3-0 in a penalty shootout after the two sides had remained locked in an 0-0 tie after 120 minutes of regulation and extra time on the evening of June 26 in Cologne.


Oleg Gusev made the deciding penalty to send Ukraine on to a quarterfinal clash against Italy on June 30 in Hamburg. Ukrainian superstar Andriy Shevchenko missed his penalty-kick attempt.


Italy earlier on June 26 beat Australia on an injury-time penalty kick by Francesco Totti.


In second-round matches on June 27, Brazil takes on Ghana in Dortmund and France battles Spain in Hanover.
