Russian Opposition To Gather On Eve Of G8 Summit

Garry Kasparov, a former world chess champion, is a leading critic of the Kremlin's current policies (AFP) June 28, 2006 -- Russian opposition groups are planning to hold a conference on the eve of the summit of the Group of Eight leading industrial nations in St. Petersburg at which they will discuss how to combat the Kremlin's tightening control over politics, the economy, and the media.

Organizers of the conference -- called Other Russia -- say it will include figures from across the spectrum of Russia's political opposition.
