Turkmen Leader Promotes, Warns Energy Minister


A gas compressor station at the Korpeje oil and gas field in Turkmenistan (ITAR-TASS) July 11, 2006 -- Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov has appointed Oil and Gas Minister Gurbanmurat Ataev to be deputy prime minister in charge of Turkmenistan's energy sector.


Ataev is to keep his ministerial post.


Speaking on state television, Niyazov warned Ataev not to steal, reminding him that several former oil officials have been sent to prison on corruption charges.
