Yerevan, Baku Discuss Nagorno-Karabakh Referendum


The BTC pipeline at the Sangachal terminal (file photo) (Courtesy Photo) December 1, 2006 -- Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian today said that Armenia and Azerbaijan are discussing terms of holding a referendum on the status of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.


Oskanian said the question of whether the region could be autonomous within Azerbaijan is an important part of the talks.


Nagorno-Karabakh is a region in Azerbaijan that has been under the control of Armenian and ethnic Armenian Karabakh forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a six-year separatist war.
