A German soldier pictured at Faizabad airport in Afghanistan (epa) December 7, 2006 -- German prosecutors said today they have dropped criminal charges against two German soldiers who were photographed posing with human skulls while on duty in Afghanistan.
A statement said there is not enough evidence to link the men to "disturbing the peace of the dead" because the skulls were found in a clay pit used by Afghans and did not come from a burial site.
The German Defense Ministry said today 13 soldiers were still the subject of a disciplinary inquiry over the photos.
