Uzbek Helicopter Crashes In Kazakhstan


(RFE/RL) February 8, 2007 -- - Uzbek officials in Tashkent say a helicopter belonging to the Defense Ministry has crashed in a Kazakh border area, killing the pilot.


The ministry said the Mi-24 crashed on February 7 after spontaneously taking off while its engine was being tested on the ground.


The cause of the accident is being investigated. It remains unclear exactly where it occurred.
