Video Shows Alleged Execution Of Iraqi Security Troops

(RFE/RL) March 4, 2007 -- An Iraqi group linked with Al-Qaeda has posted a video on the Internet showing the execution-style shooting of 18 Iraqi security troops.

In the video, Islamic State of Iraq said it killed the men to avenge the alleged rape of a Sunni woman by members of the Shi'ite-dominated police. The video's authenticity could not be immediately verified.

Elsewhere, U.S. air strikes in and around Baghdad killed senior insurgents suspected of targeting American helicopters and seven members of what the U.S. military said on March 3 was an Al-Qaeda cell responsible for car bombings.

In western Anbar Province, a suicide car bomb killed 12 people at a police checkpoint in the city of Ramadi.

Three U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb that hit their vehicle in central Baghdad, where U.S. and Iraqi forces are implementing a major security crackdown.
