U.S. Sending More Troops To Iraqi Province

(RFE/RL) May 13, 2007 -- The U.S. military said today it will send 3,000 more troops to violence-ridden Diyala Governorate, northeast of Baghdad.

U.S. Major General Benjamin Mixon, the commander of the division that oversees Diyala, requested the troop reinforcements last week.

The turbulent region to the north and east of Baghdad has seen a series of attacks recently, including a roadside bomb blast last week that killed six U.S. soldiers and a Russian journalist.
