Moscow, 13 June 1997 (RFE/RL) -- ITAR-TASS reports today that the Kremlin plans to sell seven of its foreign-made cars at the first auction of official vehicles, to be held in the Moscow suburb of Lyubertsy on June 20.
Tass reports that proceeds from the planned auction of several hundred cars over the next three years will be used to purchase cheaper, Russian-made cars, and the difference will be contributed to the federal budget.
In April, First Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov ordered the auction of western-made cars used by government officials to save money for the state. In the future, the officials are to travel in Volga sedans.
