Athens, 29 September 2003 (RFE/RL) -- A Greek court today postponed a ruling on Russia's extradition request for former Russian media tycoon Vladimir Gusinskii. Judge Nikos Fakiolas postponed the decision until Russia provides the court with further information. He said Russia must provide that information by mid-October. Fakiolas said if Russia fails to provide more evidence it would lead to a ruling against the extradition.
Gusinskii is wanted in Russia on charges of fraud and money laundering. He claims the Russian accusations are politically motivated and represent a reaction to past criticism by his media outlets of Moscow's policies.
Gusinskii was arrested in Athens last month. He was released on bail and has since stayed in Athens.
