Moment Of Silence Marks 9/11 Anniversary
U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama observed a moment of silence at the White House at 8:46 a.m., the time when the first hijacked airplane struck the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Obama later spoke at the Pentagon Memorial, saying that the United States was now a safer country. In New York, mourners also observed a moment of silence before police officers led a memorial service for the victims of the attacks. (AP)
