Vox Pop: Gagauz Minority On Moldova's EU Course

Members of Moldova's Gagauz ethnic minority shared their views with RFE/RL on Chisinau's push to join the European Union. Residents of Gagauzia -- home to 155,000 people, mostly ethnically Turkish, Russian-speaking, Orthodox Christians -- recently voted in an unofficial referendum for integration with a Moscow-led Customs Union. The Moldovan government, which initialed an Association Agreement with the EU last November, called the referendum illegal, saying it challenges Moldova's territorial integrity.
