From a dpa analysis by Nikolaus von Twickel and Andreas Stein that suggests the "pro-Western election shift will not heal Ukraine's divisions":

A projection by the Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper estimates that, together with former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko's party and the Samopomich (Self-help) party, pro-Western parties can expect to control 258 of the 420 seats in the new parliament.
However, Poroshenko does not look like a winner.

Contrary to expectations, his newly formed Poroshenko Bloc has failed to achieve its objective of becoming a dominant force, winning just 126 parliamentary seats, according to the projection.

Poroshenko will therefore have to make compromises over cabinet and policy decisions with Yatsenyuk's party, which has advocated a tougher line in the conflict with Russia and the separatists in the east.

The outcome of the vote "reflects voters' desire to continue the alliance between Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk," said Taras Berezovets, a well-known Kiev-based political consultant.

Monitors Praise Ukraine Vote, Russia Wants 'Constructive' Government

Good morning. We'll start today's Ukraine live blog with this update from RFE/RL's news desk:

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said Moscow plans to recognize elections being organized on November 2 in eastern Ukraine in defiance of the government in Kyiv.

In an interview to the "Izvestia" daily published on October 28, Lavrov said: "We expect the elections will go ahead as agreed, and we will of course recognize the results."

Leaders of the pro-Russian insurgents in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions have said they will hold elections in their so-called "people's republics" to elect separate parliaments and their own leaders.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said any local elections held in Ukraine must be conducted in accordance with Ukrainian laws, indicating Kyiv will not consider the polls planned for Donetsk or Luhansk to be legitimate.

Kyiv has offered three-year "self-rule" to parts of Donetsk and Luhansk, with local elections to be conducted on December 7.

Pro-Russian separatists in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk declared independence from Ukrainian rule after Russia annexed Crimea in March.

Voters in separatist-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk did not take part in Ukraine's parliamentary elections on October 26.
