A Norwegian Village And Its Radioactive Reindeer
In 1986, radioactive dust clouds from an explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant reached Norway. The resulting contamination has lingered for decades. Sami reindeer-herdsmen and their herds in Snasa are still tested regularly for dangerous radiation levels. Overly contaminated reindeer can't be slaughtered and must be released into the wild, endangering the traditional Sami way of life.
