Nobel-Winning Group Says Prize Sends Message To Nuclear States
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize on October 6 to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), a coalition of nongovernmental groups in more than 100 countries. Beatrice Fihn, the executive director of ICAN, said in Geneva that the award sends a signal to nuclear-armed states that arms buildup is "unacceptable," but added that the goal of nuclear disarmament will not be achieved quickly.
