Britain Regulates Student Visas For Azerbaijanis

BAKU -- The British ambassador to Azerbaijan says a new immigration system will regulate visas to Azerbaijanis interested in studying in Great Britain, RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service reports.

British ambassador Karlyn Brown said in Baku that the new Tier 4 student immigration system will provide Azerbaijanis with visas if they want to study at officially licensed British schools, ensuring that international students do not seek education at unapproved schools and universities.

Prospective Azerbaijani students have to prove the ability to support themselves during their stay and provide a local visa application center with his/her biometric data.

If granted a visa, the student is allowed to work 20 hours a week and undertake any course-related work placements.

Students intending to study in Britain for less than six months can enter the U.K. on a student visitor visa on the condition that they will not seek employment during their stay.
