DUSHANBE -- A Congress of Kazakhs (Kurultay) opened on April 20 in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.
Kazakh Embassy officials in Dushanbe said the meeting is the first ever congress of ethnic Kazakhs held in another Central Asian country.
Representatives of Kazakh diasporas in Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are gathering for the Dushanbe congress.
Kazakhstan’s official delegation is led by the chairman of the Association of the World's Kazakhs, Talgat Mamashev.
The event is organized by the Kazakh Embassy in Dushanbe and the Bayterek Kazakh Cultural Center in Tajikistan.
