AQTOBE, Kazakhstan -- A filmmaker has sold his apartment in the northwestern Kazakh city of Aqtobe in order to help finance a different type of film about World War II.
Serik Ayzhanov is the director of a movie project called "Forbidden To Live." The film, which is based on the novel "Sotnikov" by prominent Belarusian writer Vasil Bykov, attempts to show World War II without battle scenes or bloodshed of any kind.
Ayzhanov told RFE/RL's Kazakh Service that the trailer for his movie has been shown to the Union of Cinematographers of Kazakhstan, which invited him to Almaty this week to discuss his movie.
Unfortunately, the money he received from selling his apartment was not enough to pay for the whole project and Ayzhanov says he is still seeking financial help for the movie.
