Kyrgyz Opposition Activist Attacked

Unknown assailants in police uniforms attacked the coordinator of the opposition Ata Meken (Fatherland) party in Kyrgyzstan's Kara-Suu district late on January 25, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.

Tologon Keldibaev told RFE/RL that four men dressed as police stopped his car and searched it as he was traveling in southwestern Kyrgyzstan.

Keldibaev said that when the men began physically harassing him, he resisted and demanded their names. They eventually fled the scene.

The Osh regional police refused to comment on the incident.
