Kyrgyz Opposition Activist Knifed In Bishkek

An activist from Kyrgyzstan's Ata-Meken (Fatherland) opposition party has been hospitalized after he was attacked and stabbed in Bishkek.

An Ata-Meken spokesperson told RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service that unknown assailants stabbed Anvar Zhumanaliev several times and then fled. They did not take any of his personal belongings.

Zhumanaliev is in stable condition at the hospital.

According to Ata-Meken's press service, police have not yet launched an investigation into the attack.

Another Ata-Meken activist was harassed by unknown individuals in police uniforms in the southern Osh region last week.
