MOSCOW -- About 300 people gathered today near the Solovki memorial on Moscow's Lubyanka Square to mark 40 days since scores of people were killed and injured in subway suicide attacks, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

According to Orthodox Christian tradition, the dead are commemorated 40 days after their death.

The terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway's Lubyanka and Park Kultury stations on March 29 killed 40 people and injured 160 others.

Police investigators say the attacks were carried out by two female suicide bombers.
