Serbian Activists Seek Gay Pride March

Serbia's gay activists have started to campaign to hold a 2010 gay pride march in Belgrade after the 2009 event was called off over safety concerns.

Activist Marija Lasic says the "Let's walk together" campaign is trying to collect 10,000 signatures over the next three months by in Belgrade and several other Serbian towns.

The Serbian parliament last year passed a bill banning discrimination against homosexuals, but anti-gay sentiment runs deep in the country.

The last gay pride parade held in Serbia was in 2001, when it interrupted by violence from right-wing extremists. Gay rights activists had to cut short a public debate on homosexuality in Belgrade due to an anonymous bomb threat on June 11.
