ALMATY -- The wife of the jailed former president of Kazakhstan's uranium-producing giant, Kazatomprom, is refusing to cooperate with the National Security Committee (KNB), RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.

Dzhamilya Dzhakisheva told RFE/RL that she was summoned to the KNB offices in Almaty on July 28, where she officially refused to answer any questions regarding the activities of her husband, Mukhtar Dzhakishev.

Dzhakishev and several other Kazatomprom associates were arrested in May for alleged financial misdeeds.

Some rights activists and opposition leaders say the arrest and charges are politically motivated.
