Car Explosion In Astana Kills Military Officer


ASTANA -- A car exploded near Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry, killing a 40-year-old military officer who was inside the vehicle.

The Defense Ministry said the vehicle exploded on February 10 on Dostyq Street in central Astana, killing Colonel Arman Syzdyqov.

Nobody else was hurt by the blast, the statement says.

Investigators said a suicide note was found at the scene, but they did not say exactly where.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
