A spokesman for Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov say that U.S. officials have misunderstood a post on Zyuganov's Twitter feed regarding the death of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens.
Communist Duma Deputy Sergei Obkhov said the misunderstanding occurred because the Americans have "poor knowledge" of the nuances of Russian.
Zyuganov wrote: "The American ambassador to Libya was shot down like a dog. He was the main expert for the Libyan 'revolution.' He reaped what he sowed."
Earlier a Communist Party official confirmed the words were Zyuganov's, but Zyuganov told Ekho Moskvy on September 19 that "it is not my quote."
He added that Stevens "was engaged in aggression against Libya."
He said he opposes violence against diplomats.
