Solar Plant Launched In Daghestan


A solar power plant has been put into operation in tRussia's North Caucasus republic of Daghestan.

RusHydro built the plant and the head of the Russian company's regional branch, Timur Gamzatov, announced the start of operations on December 24.

Gamzatov said the solar plant has a capacity of some 5,000 kilowatts but in its initial phase it is only generating some 1,000 kilowatts.

Daghestan's Prime Minister Abdusamad Gamidov said the republic plans to build two more solar power plants.

The plant that started operations on December 25 cost nearly $2 million to construct.
