Iran's foreign minister has condemned the use of chemical weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction.
Ali Akbar Salehi made the comments in an interview with Germany's "Der Spiegel" magazine, which was published on May 12.
He noted that Iran -- which is a strong ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad -- was itself a victim of chemical attacks during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s.
On May 10, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said there is "strong evidence" that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons.
Salehi also said that Iran is ready to participate in an international conference on the conflict in Syria, which could take place later this month.
He added that Tehran was willing to "launch talks between Syria's government and the opposition."
