Two close associates of Uzbek President Islam Karimov's eldest daughter, Gulnara Karimova, have reportedly been sentenced on money-laundering and forgery charges, among others.
Several unnamed sources told RFE/RL that well-known Uzbek businessman Rustam Madumarov -- who is believed to be Karimova’s boyfriend -- was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in jail last week.
Another Karimova associate, Gayane Avakian, was reportedly sentenced to six years in jail.
There has been no official confirmation of the sentences.
The two were arrested in March and charged with forgery, illegal business activities, money laundering, tax evasion, and illegal export of hard currency in large amounts.
Around the same time, Karimova said via her Twitter account that she had been placed under house arrest.
Unconfirmed reports said last week that Karimova had been seen in one of the Baltic states celebrating her birthday.
