Media reports in Almaty on June 14 said that five patients at the Central Hospital in Kazakhstan's largest city had become HIV-positive via tainted blood transfusions. The Almaty city health directorate said a special commission was established on June 2 to investigate the situation. This is not the first case of HIV spreading in a hospital in Kazakhstan.
