Former leading opposition activist Maria Gaidar, the daughter of former acting Russian Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar, has taken a post as an unpaid adviser on social issues in the Moscow mayor's office.
Gaidar will work for Deputy Moscow Mayor Leonid Pechatnikov.
Gaidar was a longtime opposition leader, heading the Moscow party list for the opposition Union of Rightist Forces in the 2007 Duma elections.
In 2006, she and opposition figure Ilya Yashin unfurled a large banner from a Moscow bridge calling for free elections.
She served as deputy governor of Kirov Oblast under former opposition leader Nikita Belykh from 2009 until 2011.
Gaidar's father, Yegor, served as a reformist acting prime minister of Russia from June to December 1992 under President Boris Yeltsin.
