Pakistani Army Says 31 Militants Killed In Air Strikes

Pakistan's military says fresh air strikes in restive tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan have left 31 militants dead.

An army statement on January 4 said attacks late on January 2 targeted the Tirah Valley in the Khyber region.

The statement said four militant hideouts and a suicide bomber training center were destroyed in the attacks.

Pakistan's military says it has killed more than 1,200 militants since it started an offensive in another tribal area -- North Waziristan -- last spring.

The Pakistani military and pro-government paramilitary forces have increased attacks on militant positions in the tribal areas following last month's massacre at a school in Peshawar when militants killed some 150 people, nearly all of them schoolchildren.
