In Quetta, Pakistan, police say attackers have shot and killed at least nine people and injured 15 in an attack on a former lawmaker.

Police officer Bashir Ahmad Barohi said opponents of former provincial minister Ali Madad Jatak appear to have been involved in the attack on August 9 in Quetta, the capital of the southwestern province of Balochistan.

Jatak, who was coming out of a mosque with a group of his supporters, escaped unharmed.

The incident came a day after a Taliban suicide bomber attacked a police officer's funeral in Quetta, killing 30 people, including a senior officer.
