Another Doctor Apparently Kidnapped In Pakistan's Balochistan

QUETTA, Pakistan -- A doctor in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan Province has apparently been abducted, just a few weeks after a similar incident occurred in the same region.

Regional officials told RFE/RL on December 11 that Dr. Abdul Aziz, who works at the Helper Eye Hospital, disappeared while on his way home from work late on December 10.

Police found his car on a road with his medical-service card inside.

The Pakistan Medical Association's Balochistan chapter has called an emergency meeting on December 11 to review the ongoing kidnapping of doctors.

The latest incident takes place less than three weeks after a prominent doctor in Balochistan, Saeed Ahmed Khan, was released after being held hostage since October.

At least 27 doctors have been killed and 12 more kidnapped in the province over the past five years.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
