Poetry Competition To Mark Former Chechen Leader's Anniversary

Former Chechen leader Akhmad Kadyrov was assassinated in 2004.
GROZNY -- Authorities in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Chechnya have announced a poetry competition to mark the 61st birthday anniversary of the late Chechen president Akhmad Kadyrov.

The competition is being organized by Chechnya's Ministry of National Policy, Press and Information.

The ministry said on March 28 that a specially selected jury will judge the "originality, brilliance and expressiveness" of submissions, as well as the poems' compliance with "ethical standards and the selected topic."

Works of poetry can be submitted in four categories, in the Chechen and Russian languages.

Winners are scheduled to be announced at a ceremony in August in the Chechen capital Grozny.

Ahmad Kadyrov, father of current Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov, was killed in a bomb attack during a military parade in Grozny in May, 2004.
