Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on October 10.

The Kremlin press service said on October 7 that Putin will be in Turkey to take part in the 23rd World Energy Congress and will meet with Erdogan on the sidelines of that event.

"Putin will speak at a special session of the [congress]," a Kremlin statement said.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said Putin and Erdogan will discuss "relevant issues in Russian-Turkish relations" as well as regional and international issues, including Syria.

He said the two also planned to sign bilateral documents.

Peskov said Putin will also meet with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro while in Istanbul.
