Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka has set a new record for most total time in space by a human.

Padalka on June 29 surpassed the previous record of 803 days set by fellow cosmonaut Sergei Krikalyov in 2005.

Padalka is currently aboard the International Space Station and is expected to have spent 880 days in space by the time he returns to Earth on September 11.

The current mission, which began on March 27, is Padalka's fifth trip into space.
