Russian Physicist Jailed For High Treason

A Moscow court has sentenced a physicist to nine years in prison on charges of high treason.

The Moscow City Court found Maksim Lyudomirsky guilty on November 18 and sentenced him the same day.

No more details are available as the trial was held behind closed doors.

Lyudomirsky was a co-owner of Elektrooptika Company, which produces classified outputs used in military technologies.

He was arrested last year.

His case is one of several in recent years in which Russian citizens have been accused of high treason and/or disseminating classified or sensitive information.

In September, former intelligence officer Gennady Kravtsov was sentenced to 14 years in prison after a court found him guilty of providing the West with classified information about a new spacecraft.

Based on reporting by Interfax and RIA

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
