Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said the UN Security Council should play a key role, working with national governments, in alleviating the worst effects of the coronavirus crisis, especially in lesser-developed countries. In an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Power said the failure of a coordinated global response has compounded the disaster, and as long as the virus rages anywhere in the world none of us is safe. Power served as UN ambassador during the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama. Her book, The Education Of An Idealist, looks at the global response to the Ebola crisis during that period.
