Five Ethnic Albanians Arrested Over War Crimes

Serbian police have arrested five ethnic Albanians in the country's south for alleged war crimes.

Serbian officials say the alleged crimes were committed during a low-level ethnic Albanian insurgency between 2000-01.

No details have been released about the alleged crimes.

The police operation on May 4 was carried out in the southern Serbian city of Bujanovac, where in 2001 ethnic Albanian guerrillas of the Liberation Army of Presevo, Medvedja, and Bujanovac (LAPMB) fought Serbian government forces.

The LAPMB wanted Presevo, Bujanovac, and Medvedja, which have an Albanian majority population, to break free from Serbia and join adjacent Kosovo, which was then under the administration of the United Nations.

The three towns remain part of Serbia.
