France Arrests Srebrenica War Crimes Suspect

A former Serbian paramilitary suspected of taking part in the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia in 1995 has been arrested in southeastern France.

Milorad Momic was detained close to Grenoble under an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia for crimes against humanity. Momic was allegedly part of a unit involved in the murder of nearly 8,000 Muslim men and boys.

The authorities in Grenoble told the AFP news agency that Momic appeared before the public prosecutor today with a view toward his eventual extradition to Serbia.

Belgrade said it would apply for the extradition in the coming days.
