The Russian Defense Ministry says both crew members have been killed in the crash of a military helicopter in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow.

Defense Ministry officials said the navigator and pilot were both killed in the crash of the Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopter.

The helicopter is reported to have gone down late on March 12.

Officials said the wreck was found the next day about 10 kilometers west of the Torzhok airfield.

Interfax news agency reports that poor visibility created by “unfavorable weather conditions” is being investigated as a possible cause of the crash.

The Ka-52 is described as one of the most modern aircraft in Russia's air forces.

It is designed to engage in aerial combat, destroy tanks, and perform battlefield reconnaissance.
