The helicopter's downing came amid reports of intensive gunfire outside the city on May 29.
Slovyansk has seen fierce fighting in recent weeks as government forces continue their offensive against separatists in the east of the country.
On May 29, the separatists in Slovyansk said they were holding four observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) who went missing earlier this week.
The self-declared separatist "mayor" of the city, Vyacheslav Ponomaryov, said the observers were "fine" and promised they would be freed soon.
Petro Poroshenko, the winner of Ukraine's presidential election, has vowed to continue the "antiterrorist operation" and bring the crisis in the east to a quick end.

Oleksandr Turchynov told parliament today that with practically all ballots counted from the May 25 election, Poroshenko had won 54.7 percent of the vote.
Poroshenko's closest rival, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, had nearly 13 percent.
Turchynov said he was arranging preparations for Poroshenko's inauguration, which he said must follow within 15 days of the election.
Turchynov also confirmed that Vitali Klitschko had won the election for mayor of the capital, Kyiv, which was also held on May 25.
Klitschko is a Poroshenko ally.
