UN Mission In Afghanistan Renewed For Another Year

UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council has renewed the mandate of its mission in Afghanistan, known as UNAMA, until March of 2012.

UNAMA is a civilian mission, including 1,500 people -- 80 percent of them Afghans -- tasked with providing support for the Afghan government.

They work in three key areas, reconstruction, development, and fighting drug trafficking.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
