German consumer goods company Henkel is pulling a toilet freshener out of Ukraine after complaints from consumers because the product's branding colors resembled the Ukrainian national flag.
In a statement published on Facebook on August 12, the company said it was sorry if people felt offended by the design of the product.
It stressed that the color blue, intended to represent water and hygiene, and the yellow color for the freshener's lemon scent are common for this type of product.
Nonetheless, Henkel said that it takes consumers' concerns very seriously, and has decided to immediately stop the distribution of the BrefDuo Stripes freshener and also canceled a related TV ad.
The product and the TV ad had also prompted calls for a boycott of the company.
