U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy was granted access to jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich at Moscow’s Lefortovo prison on July 3 and reported that he is "in good health and remains strong, despite his circumstances," according to the State Department. It was the second such visit since his detention on March 29. A court last week upheld a request from Russia authorities to extend the Gershkovich’s pretrial detention until least August 30. The infrequency of consular access has been a growing point of contention between Washington and Moscow. U.S. citizen Gershkovich, 31, was detained while on a reporting trip in Yekaterinburg.
