Failed Suicide Attack Targets Afghan Governor

(RFE/RL) 7 November 2005 -- An apparent suicide bomb attempt targeted the governor of a southern province of Afghanistan today, but failed.
Interior Ministry spokesman Yousuf Stanizai said the attack happened in the town of Lashkargar in the country's southern Helmand Province.

The attacker, identified as a foreign national, detonated his explosive-laden vehicle as provincial Governor Sher Mohammad was entering his office.

The governor was not injured in the attack. The bomber appears to have survived the blast, but lost both his arms and legs.
