Afghan President Karzai (file photo) (epa) 25 December 2005 -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai said today two Afghan "high-ranking" officials had been fired after they were caught spying.

He did not name the two men, and it wasn't clear when they were dismissed or if any action was taken against them.

Speaking to members of Afghanistan's new parliament, Karzai also blamed unnamed foreign powers for decades of fighting in his country.

The president said some Afghans had become tools in the hands of foreigners to perpetuate unrest in the country in order to make money.
